10/20/08 (GRIMM): So over the next two days is the last of the immediate need character sketches. There's two characters that will need to get done before we get too far into the comic, but Kat said she'd start working on panels. We might be a legit comic soon...!!

10/15/08 (GRIMM): Two pieces of extremely good news. The first piece is that currently posted is arguably the most major character in the comic. Kat's been having some trouble solidifying his look but as you can see it's finally done. There may or may not be a Glorious Amaze-o-Color version prior to the comic "officially" launching with real panels, but we'll probably color this one eventually for the cast page if nothing else. We've got one more semi-major character to finish up before we can get started but as of today I saw a sketch of him and she's got the head down, it's just a matter of figuring out the body. Better news: There's something on the main page besides my drawings. Full House, Sucka.

10/10/08 (GRIMM): Kat has got a couple more samples up INCLUDING two that have been giving her quite a bit of trouble. One more character finished and she can start on actual panels! A few of the other characters are rapidly approaching finished, I'll try to get some scanned and put up soon.
In the meantime - I've put up two sketches of my own to illustrate why Kat is the artist and not me...

9/13/08 (GRIMM): Throwing up some more samples (got stuff queued already, every day till 9/18). This latest batch is a combination of things that were colored by either Kat or I, generally speaking the better shaded stuff is hers. The first color one (the 9/6 one) is the only one that we're considering "done", the other ones are still getting their colors done. There's multiple drafts of a few characters - those are where Kat and I both colored one and the "final" look will probably be somewhere in-between our pics (but she'll definitely do the shading 'cuz she's by far the best at it). Further samples may or may not show up here.
I'm on a new job for the next 2-3 weeks so I won't be seeing her until I return, so this batch of uploads is probably it for a couple weeks (I haven't shown her how to do updates yet) BUT she's still working on stuff and there'll probably be a bunch of updates immediately when I get back. Last time I saw her she was working on a huge landscape for the first couple scenes and touching up a couple fresh character shots, so there should be some different stuff coming up in the near future.

9/6/08 (GRIMM): Here's one more sample - IN GLORIOUS AMAZO-COLOR - there's a few other ones incoming but we need to tweak some colors slightly. Kat and I both colored some of them, and there's some parts where we liked my colors better and some where we liked hers... Her shading quality is much better than mine either way so even if I colored it well she's still gonna redo it. We're both back on the same schedule at work (we haven't been since June) so hopefully our communication (and thus our speed) is going to improve. Once we're done with all the cast sketches we'll be groovy, I'm HOPING to have some panels up by the end of the month.

8/25/08 (GRIMM): More concept sketches coming up (they're already loaded, so there'll be a new one each day for the next 10 days or so) - Cat's done most of the major female characters and I just saw some previews on a couple of the male ones. There's a couple characters she's having difficulty getting the right "look" for but she's definitely on track. We spent quite a bit of time today working on her computer and learning some photoshop tricks so we SHOULD be seeing some color images (and maybe some actual panels!) soon. Once we start getting some up, it'll roll pretty smoothly... we're hoping that by taking some extra time in the beginning we'll have a more solid comic once it gets going.

6/18/08 (GRIMM): We're still working on layouts and finishing concept sketches, so please excuse the lack of an actual comic right now.
This is a huge learning process for both of us and we're still trying to work out our initial kinks - I'm not used to scripting a comic (the story is done, but it's an adaption of my novel so it's not in the "script" a comic writer would normally produce). Cat has been drawing pretty much forever but she's never done any real digital work outside of playing in MSPaint and she's never worked on a production project like this before. And we've never worked together before on a project so it's going to be learning experiences all around.
I've been trying to find a way to get my story out for a long time now and had been kicking around the idea of a webcomic but since I have NO ability to draw people whatsoever (I'm a graphic artist/web designer but can't do fine art) and I saw Cat working on a drawing and it hit me that her style was perfect for the type of story I've written. I pitched the idea to her and now we're partners. We're just now starting to get in the rhythm of working together and Cat is still trying to learn computer art (she normally works with pencils, which don't scan too well) - the only reason we've got our CG site up at all is so I can work on things like the web layout and such.
My next project is setting up mailing lists and forums on another server (we want to use CG and we're happy with their COMIC support but it doesn't support any kind of php, email or forum stuff) - as soon as I have something up it'll show up here in the comments section.
Character Bio page(s) are in progress and new characters will be added to the page as they're introduced in the comic... so any time you see a new character check up for more info :) Some character background info will only be released on the bio pages (nothing critical to the story, just "extra" info) so check up on it often :) For a while you'll probably only see my comments here, as Cat's workload decreases a bit you'll start seeing some of her voice on here as well. We hope you enjoy 1001 Knights!
